Responsibilities
Provides medical care to animals used in support of lab project goals. Exercises independent professional judgment in the assessment of animal health and consults with veterinarians and investigators regarding appropriate diagnosis, therapy, and management. Assists in the planning, implementation, and modification of animal use in experiments. Works directly with the veterinarians and interacts with staff, residents, medical students, and other personnel using the animal facilities to exchange information and resolve problems. Serves as a surgical tech in the operating room, administering anesthesia and providing postoperative care. Trains residents/fellows/temporary lab personnel in laboratory animal methodology. Responsible for maintaining anesthetic, surgical, and radiological equipment and medical supplies, including pharmaceuticals. Additional duties may be assigned as required to fulfill departmental responsibilities.
Qualifications
Associates degree in Veterinary Technology, Veterinary Technician State Licensure with two years experience with lab animal species required. Certification as Laboratory Animal Technician or Laboratory Animal Technologist through the American Association of Laboratory Animal Science is desirable. Must be able to follow oral and written directions. Must have the ability to organize and carry out medical and surgical techniques independently. Good manual dexterity and must be able to meet the physical requirements of the position. Must be willing to work weekends and holidays. Must be able to work well with others.

Compensation Detail: Education, experience and tenure may be considered along with internal equity when job offers are extended; $27.99-41.98/hour

Schedule Details: Monday-Friday 7:00am-3:30pm 1 Night shift every 6 weeks 1:00pm-9:00pm Work 1 holiday per year Weekend Schedule Saturday/Sunday every 6 weeks.
